Why some states say “coming soon”

California, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, Oregon require paid preparers to hold a separate state registration or license. We’ll open these states as soon as that’s complete. If you live in one of them, sign up anyway and we’ll let you know the moment it opens.

No income tax states

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming don’t tax wages, so most residents only need a federal return. Washington does tax large long-term capital gains, and you may still need a return in another state where you worked or earned income.
