Frequently asked questions

Who prepares my return?

A paid tax preparer registered with the IRS (with a Preparer Tax Identification Number, PTIN). We sign every return we prepare, as the law requires.

How do I get you my documents?

Through an encrypted client portal. After you sign up we email you an invite. You upload documents, sign the e-file authorization (Form 8879) and pay there. We never collect Social Security numbers or documents by email, text or on this website.

How much will my return cost?

Flat tiers from $59, with one state included. We confirm your price after seeing your documents and before we start. If something adds work you didn't mention, we tell you and ask first.

When do I pay?

After your return is prepared and you have reviewed it, before we e-file.

How long does it take?

Usually 3–5 business days after we have all your documents. In the last two weeks before Tax Day it can take longer — we file a free extension if needed.

When will I get my refund?

Most e-filed returns with direct deposit are refunded within 21 days of IRS acceptance. By law, refunds claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit can't be issued before mid-February. Track it with the IRS "Where's My Refund?" tool.

Can you file prior-year or amended returns?

Yes — see add-on prices on the pricing page.

I got a letter from the IRS. Can you help?

Yes. We review letters about returns we prepared at no extra charge, and offer a flat-fee review for others.

Is my information safe?

We follow the IRS and FTC safeguards rules for tax preparers, including a written security plan, multi-factor authentication and encryption. See How we protect your data.
